The Island Inn is the
oldest functioning business on the Outer Banks. It is
also the oldest and finest establishment on the island.
The Inn is wrought with history and has been a center of
life for Ocracoke's small community for over a century.
Built entirely from ship
wrecked wood in 1901, the Inn has served many purposes over
the years. It has been the village's school, a dance
parlor, an ice cream shop, an army barracks during World War
II and has finally settled into its most fitting role as a
Historic Inn.
The Inn is listed in the
National Registry of Historic Places and nestled in the
village's Historic District, facing Silverlake Harbor.
Each of our rooms is uniquely decorated in antique
furnishings. The Inn itself does not accommodate
children (as it has only double and King sized beds and is
best for couples only). However, our luxuries villas -
added in 2003 - are perfect for families and couples who are
looking for a more inclusive accommodation.
All of our rooms and villas
are non-smoking. Some offer panoramic views of the
harbor.
We have been featured in many publications including,
Southern Living, Conde' Naste Travel Guide, The Saturday
Evening Post and Fodor's, to name a few. |
